405 AUTOMOTIVE, Inc. MERCEDES SPECIALISTS

Mercedes Benz vehicles are close to perfection in its simplicity. More than 100 years of experiments and experiences made modern Mercedes Benz vehicles the most advanced on the road.

Mercedes-Benz cars are friendly in service and repairs but require special tools and sophisticated diagnostics equipment called Xentry.

Most of problems in those cars come to a few categories;

1. Front suspension ball joints and bushings - they occasionally prematurely wear down and you may experience clinking or ticking noise going over bumps or rough road.

2. Airmatic suspension either E class or S class - air supply compressor brakes and front and rear air struts sometimes leaking air - you will notice message on dashboard display saying Airmatic - visit workshop. Repair usually comes down to replacing struts or compressor or both.

3. ABC - Active Body Control on your S55AMG or SL series - similar system to Airmatic but more advanced. Its hydraulic system and medium is not air but hydraulic fluid who keeps car on the road like sticked to it. Usually strut assemblies leaking fluid or ABC pump is malfunctioning. Unfortunately it is expensive repair.

4. Oil leaks- usually valve covers leaking, power steering reservoir or hoses leaking. Repair is pretty simple and comes down to resealing top valve cover vents and replacing bottom valve cover gaskets. Power steering reservoir is not expensive and easy to replace.

5. Transmission leaks - on all 722.6xx series electrical connector who supplies power and signals from transmission control module to solenoids and sensors inside transmission usually leaks fluid. Repair is simple and comes down to replacing electrical connector and refilling transmission. Sometimes we do recommend servicing transmission at the same time - replace transmission filter and fill with fresh fluid. There is special procedure and tool for checking transmission fluid level - of course we have it!

6. Fuel pump - when your car stalls or has no power or did not want to start usually fuel pump is bad. Fuel pump is electrical motor who is attached to small roller type pump. If your car has 80.000 miles on the clock imagine that pump pumped more than 6000 gallons of fuel! It may be tired and stop working... Repair comes down to replacing fuel pump assembly and fuel filter.

7. Check engine light / lack of power. Main problem for that is air mass sensor - it is device who measures how much air engine takes. This value is critical for engine control module to determine how much fuel to inject for optimal combustion. Usual repair comes down to replacement of air mass sensor and resetting air / fuel mixture adaptation using Mercedes-Benz Xentry or Star Diagnostics System.

8. Oops that's about it - I tried to describe the most common problems in modern Mercedes-Benz cars. Of course you may experience almost anything going bad on your Benz but by servicing and maintaining your vehicle on time you decreasing risk of break-down a lot. Late models are equipped with FSS - Flexible Service System who reminds you about upcoming service - Remember to protect your investment by performing service on time.
